Are you wondering why your Instagram engagement isn’t taking off in the right direction? It can be so frustrating when you go through all the work to create content that falls flat. Before you give up or start blaming the algorithm, consider this simple content strategy that can explode your engagement.
So why didn’t your post get the engagement it deserved? Maybe it’s because it doesn’t do one of the 3 E’s. The 3 E’s is my signature content pillar implement strategy. It’s a simple framework you can use to make sure your content is purposeful and will provide value for your audience.
I have found that oftentimes small business owners become overwhelmed by content creation because they don’t know the basics when it comes to content marketing strategy, and they don’t have tons of time to spend creating and posting content.
What are the 3 E’s of Instagram Engagement?
Whenever you sit down to write content you need to ask yourself the purpose of the post. When you are strategically using content marketing, every post has a purpose that falls into one of these three categories: Educate, Entertain, Excite. Here is a quick breakdown of my signature method 3 E’s for Instagram engagement.
In my experience posts, that provide the most value to your audience tend to perform the best. This type of content is about sharing tips, tricks, and stats that answer problems or information about your niche.
Infusing your personality into your content is the most effective way to stand out from your competition. Remember, your audience wants to get to know YOU. If you’re providing great content, but lacks a personal touch it will be lost in a sea of other posts.
Excite content is all about selling your products, services, or offerings but ultimately it’s about selling yourself. People buy from people that they know, like, and trust. These posts are intended to get people pumped about what your products can do for them. For example, you should create a post introducing yourself and your services.
Before you hit publish ask yourself, will this content Educate, Excite, or Entertain my audience?
If the answer is no, don’t post it.
Implementing The 3 E’s Method for Instagram Engagement
Before we dive into the exact method, let’s cover what the 3 E’s are not. The 3 E’s are NOT content pillars they are a way to implement your content pillars.
Content pillars or brand pillars give your content direction and allow you to position yourself as an expert in your field by consistently posting relevant information for your audience. They will help you develop content ideas and solve the question, “What should I post today?”
These pillars are the key topics that you use to categorize the content that you create. For example, if you are a health coach, you can choose fitness, nutrition, and mental wellbeing as your pillars. You should have around 3-4 content pillars, and they should be topics that your target audience cares about.
The 3 E’s provide guidelines on how to talk about your pillars in your post. Using our Health Coach as an example here’s how it looks.
Pillar 1 Example: Tips for starting a fitness habit
Pillar 2 Example: Best foods your gaining muscle
Pillar 3: Example: How to avoid burnout
Pillar 1 Example: Behind the scenes of your workout
Pillar 2 Example: How you use unexpected ingredients in your smoothie
Pillar 3: Example: Your favorite books to read to unwind
Pillar 1 Example: A free yoga poses guide for beginners
Pillar 2 Example: A grocery shopping checklist
Pillar 3: Example: Your course on developing a journaling habit
Coming up with engagement worthy content isn’t difficult, but it does require strategy. People will organically engage with your content when they find that it adds value to their lives.
